In order to plan an event of this magnitude, The Big Event at Virginia Tech needs nearly 200 dedicated individuals working year round. From the Exec to the Committee to Staff members, all positions are extremely important to the overall success of The Big Event.

Your 2015 Exec Team:

Hello everyone! My name is Austin Moon and I am a Senior Biological Systems engineering student. I volunteered as a freshman for a Big Event project and I immediately fell in love with the idea of The Big Event and all of the serving aspects of it. I decided to apply for the marketing committee my sophomore year and really enjoyed it so I applied to be a Co-Exec for Student Outreach my Junior year. Right now I am Co-Directing the Big Event, focusing on every aspect of making sure that The Big Event happens on April 11. My favorite part about Big Event and being on Exec is getting to see the impact that Virginia Tech has on each and every homeowner that we serve as well as getting to be behind the scenes truly serving the people that all of you volunteer for. Other than the Big Event, I also work for the Residential Leadership Community as a student intern, lead a bible study and am involved in Cru, Campus Crusade for Christ, and I am a part of the pre-dental club. In my free time, I like to hang out with my friends and play lots of rec sports, especially wallyball. After graduating from Virginia Tech, I will be attending Dental School.

Hello, Hokies! I am currently a senior double majoring in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Communication, and I'm a first generation Hokie from Annapolis, MD! I was lucky enough to stumble across The Big Event my freshman year, and I have been in love with the event ever since. Virginia Tech has inspired me to live out the motto of Ut Prosim, and the best way that I know how to do that is to dedicate my time to the town and to the community that has given me the best home I could have ever asked for. Apart from The Big Event, I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Legacy and a lacrosse coach for Adaptive Sports. Go Hokies!

Hello everyone! My name is Steven Vanderloo and I'm a junior, majoring in Business Information Technology with a minor in Business Leadership. Originally from Delaware, I joined The Big Event my freshman year as a staff member & zone leader. I loved seeing how much the volunteers could accomplish and how grateful all of the homeowners were. After seeing such a successful day unfold, I applied to be on the Exec Team as our first Webmaster! After transforming our website and registration process last year, I was selected to be the Assistant Director for this year. In addition to our managing our finances and budget, I also am helping to transition and improve on the website that was created last year. My favorite aspect of The Big Event is bringing our community together and I can't wait to see our community give back for One Big Thanks on April 11.

Oh Hey! My name is David Bohn, and I'm a Junior studying Industrial and Systems Engineering here at Tech. Having participated with The Big Event since my freshman year I love seeing the impact it has on the community. I always have a plan and love to scheduling and organize which makes Director of Communications lots of fun and rewarding for me! I choose to serve on exec this year because I enjoy facilitating events and making things happen, and there is no better or bigger way to live out Ut Prosim than with The Big Event.

Hey Hokies and the surrounding community! My name is Robyn Walters and I am excited to serve as the Director of Community Relations for the Big Event 2015! I am a senior at Virginia Tech studying Political Science with minors in History and Russian Studies. This will be my third year participating in the Big Event. My sophomore year, I volunteered with my Bible study, my junior year I was on the Local Fundraising Committee, and now I am serving on Exec. I love the Big Event because it fosters a better relationship between Virginia Tech and the local community. I feel like so many Universities are at odds with the surrounding community, but that is definitely not the case with Virginia Tech!

Hello! My name is Kelley and I am a junior pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. My freshman year at Tech I got involved with The Big Event as a volunteer. The homeowner my team and I helped out showed us how much the community needed and appreciated our help which pushed me to become further involved with TBE. That push lead me to apply for fundraising committee my sophomore year and I enjoyed it so much I decided to apply for Exec! I am currently working as a Co-director of Fundraising and I couldn’t be more excited! My favorite part about TBE is seeing the community all come together on the same day to make a BIG difference!

Hello Hokies! I’m Natalie Pagano, a senior at Virginia Tech studying Psychology, hoping to be your couch-talk therapist in the future! As my first year on Exec, I am so excited to serve as a Co-director of Fundraising. Attending Virginia Tech is easily one of the best decisions I have ever made, and seeing and feeling our sense of community confirms that every day. It is a privilege to be a part of The Big Event as a phenomenal way for the entire student body to come together and embrace ‘Ut Prosim’ along with everything the Hokie community stands for, and why it earns such a special place in my heart. Our fundraising goals are through the roof this year, and we will work hard to celebrate giving back to the community and thank those who give their time to make a difference in someone’s life. I’m all about service, and Chi Delta Alpha is where I give back outside of The Big Event. See you soon on the drillfield!

Hokie hokie hokie hi, I’m Brock Wolf. A junior political science major, I got involved with The Big Event my freshman year as a volunteer. I was able to see firsthand how big an impact The Big Event can have on people in the area. Not only did I get to hang out with my friends and lay some mulch, we were able to help a neighbor who wouldn’t have been able to do it himself. I wanted nothing more than to get more involved with The Big Event, and here I am. Plus everybody knows the ladies love a man who gives back!

My name is Robbie Ashton and I come from the traffic-congested land of Northern Virginia! I’m a junior studying Political Science with a passion for technology and entrepreneurship. Hey everybody! My name’s Aaron Ritter and this will be my fourth year involved with the Big Event, as well as my third year on the Exec team. I got involved with TBE my freshman year and have loved it ever since. To me, the Big Event personifies what it means to be a Hokie. I have seen my fair share of exec’s, but I have no doubt this will be the best year Virginia Tech has ever seen. We have a lot of things planned and can’t wait to get out on the Drillfield to give back to our fantastic community.

Hi Hokies! My name is Ellie Helton and I am a junior double majoring in Wildlife Conservation and Biological Sciences. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and gardening. My freshman year I volunteered with a group of friends for the Big Event and had a blast. The next year, I was lucky to be selected to be on a committee and found out how rewarding it is to work behind the scenes for such a large service project. This is my first year serving on the exec team and I am so pumped to help plan the year ahead with my co-director and fellow teammates. Big Event is a wonderful way to show Ut Prosim and give back to the community of Blacksburg. I hope we can all make this year’s Big Event even bigger and better than those in the past!

I am extremely excited to spend a second year on exec for The Big Event and truly live out our school's motto, Ut Prosim. I cannot think of a better way to say thank you while also taking the time to get to know our local community. The difference we can make in just one day is HUGE! When I'm not insanely busy with Big Event related things, you can find me watching Grey's Anatomy, hiking, or secretly crying downtown as my final year at VT flies by.

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren Schneider and I am a senior studying Human Development and Sociology. After graduation I hope to attend graduate school for occupational therapy. I am so excited to serve as co-director of projects this year! I have participated in The Big Event since freshman year, but last year was my first time on committee. As a committee member I got to see the impact that The Big Event has on many residents in Blacksburg and the surrounding areas first hand as a zone leader. I think that The Big Event is one of the most effective and sincere ways we as students get to give back to the community that has made our college experience so great. I can't wait to make this years Big Event bigger and better than ever!

Hi everyone! My name is Kate Smucker and I'm a double major in Finance and Marketing from Richmond, VA. I am most looking forward to directly interacting with homeowners and students to make this year's TBE the best yet!
